ChatGPT has Co-written the South Park episode

ChatGPT, an open-source language generator, has made history by becoming the first AI to ever co-write an episode of the long-running comedy show South Park. This is a major milestone for artificial intelligence, and its implications could be far-reaching. In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at how ChatGPT achieved this feat and what it could mean for the future of AI in entertainment.

What is an South Park Animation?

With its satirical and irreverent humour, South Park has been a cultural phenomenon since 1997, touching on everything from politics to pop culture. As with its previous controversial topics, South Park creators have tackled AI chatbots this time. “Deep Learning,” the fourth episode of season 26, features students at South Park Elementary discovering how the latest technology can help them accomplish their homework. As part of the March 9, 2023 release of the episode, it credits “ChatGPT” as one of its writers, along with Trey Parker. However, given the show’s tendency towards irony and sarcasm, this credit may not be genuine. As part of the episode, a text-to-voice generator powered by Play.ht was used to create one or two of the voices heard.
